Careers in International Organizations Panel

Sami Murphy ‘21, Jessie Ainslie ‘19, and Emily Heneghan Kasoma ‘01 are CMC alumna working in interesting and important areas in the IOs sector. In this one hour panel they will speak about their careers and answer student questions .

Sami Murphy '21 is a Programme Manager Consultant at UNDPPA's Innovation Cell. For over two years, Sami has managed the research, design, and expansion of projects at the Innovation Cell. While her role is to apply emerging technologies to peace and security use-cases generally, her main expertise is in geospatial technology, sustainability, and rural development. She has previously conducted research in Peru and Southeast Asia as part of research fellowships, local nonprofits, and international NGOs. Sami graduated from Claremont McKenna College with a bachelor's in International Relations and Spanish and is passionate about diversity and inclusion within the geospatial field, particularly for women, girls, and indigenous communities. She is currently leading a geospatial project within the region of Central Africa that bakes inclusivity into its design and addresses climate fragility and human migration. Central to her role is storytelling and bridging the technical and political worlds.

Jessie Ainslie '19 serves as the Government Liaison Associate at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). In this role, she works to expand and strengthen UNHCR’s relationship with U.S. Executive Branch officials, think tanks, NGOs, and diplomats engaged on humanitarian and development policies impacting forcibly displaced people, as well as those with influence over U.S. foreign policy and national security policies. Prior to joining UNHCR, she held roles at the Center for Global Development and at the Brynne Kennedy for Congress 2020 campaign. Her previous internships include the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the House Veteran Affairs Committee, Amnesty International, and the LA Democratic Party. She holds a dual BA in International Relations and Government with a Sequence in Human Rights from Claremont McKenna College and a MSc in International Development from the University of Edinburgh. She was born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii.

While at CMC, Jessie was the RA of Wohlford Hall, a Senior Interviewer, a Tour Guide, and a Student Ambassador at the Center for Global Engagement. She also participated in the Washington DC Program. She could most commonly be found on Green Beach or at the Motely.

Emily Heneghan Kasoma '01 is based out of WFP’s UK Office and serves as the SBN Global Co-coordinator. Emily has been working to support, strengthen and expand national SUN Business Networks since 2014. She is passionate about food and ensuring that all people have access to an adequate, nutritious diet. She works across multi-stakeholder platforms at global and national levels to help make this a reality. Emily has Masters degrees in Business Administration and Public Health from the University of Michigan. She lives in Lusaka, Zambia, with her family.
